Jac has words!
The number of words in Jac's vocabulary has skyrocketed in the last month. On May 30th I made a word list of words that Jac could say at that time. It was 34 words long. It was probably more like 40 or so at the time - I am sure I missed a few. On June 24th I made a new list and he was up to 107 words! Amazing! And I am sure I am missing a few! Meghan (one of our Mothers' Helpers) helped me make the list!

Nic is soldier crawling (sort of)
Twelve inches I tell you! Twelve inches! He can move twelve inches!
Nic has figured out that he can propel himself forward while on his tummy if he pushes really hard with his legs and digs his toes in. He is so determined to move now - he is rolling more to get to things, and getting on all fours to grab things and then getting back to sitting or flopping onto his tummy once he has the object of his desire. Go Nicie go!

Jac is almost two!
Jac will be two in about two weeks and we are planning a birthday party for him! I have also created him an amazon.com wish list for those that might like to purchase him a birthday gift. There a lot of books on the list and also some larger items that his therapists have requested for him. Ig you click on the button below it will take you to his wish list.

Nic is officially a roller
Nic started really rolling today! I knew I was in trouble this morning when I was TRYING to change his diaper on the changing table. While I was cleaning him he started to roll and I just had to stop and watch while he rolled all the over onto his stomach and got his arms nicely under him! I got some good pictures!

Later today he rolled over three times and travelled a few feet to grab a toy. Then he used Uncle Bob and Auntie Leslie's shag carpet as a toe push to go a few inches forward to grab Uncle Bob's keys.
He is standing all the time - he can stand holding on to something by himself if you get his feet under him and balanced - he doesn't understand how to move his feet at all while he is standing.

Happy Belated 23 month Birthday Jac
Jac is now 23 months old (as of June 10!). Man I am late with this one! We have had a lot going on around here though!
Jac is making so much progress with so many things that it is hard to keep up!
I am going to post a couple of pictures from Kangaroo Kingdom today and I will do a more full write up when I am not quite so tired!

Stomach!
Mr. Nicie can roll on to his stomach from his back! It took the keyboard of my MacBook to motivate him, but motivate him it did! This video is the second time that he rolled from his back to his stomach on the couch to get my keyboard! He has already taken the key caps off of a key on my MacBook and Joseph's PC laptop!
Nicie is so close to crawling. He is now going from a sitting position and rotating onto one leg and then down on to his stomach (in addition to being able to roll from his back to his stomach - which he still doesn't do much!). Once he gets onto his stomach he flails his arms and legs around and then cries because he can't figure out how to move or get back up and so he cries until someone rescues him and puts him back into a sitting position! He has so far figured out that he can rotate around a fixed point (his belly!) and he has rotated 90 degrees to get something and he has moved himself forward a few inches with some help (pushing on his legs from behind) but no movement beyond that. Soon! No more "Lump!"

"Jac" and "Nic"
Jac now says "Jac" and "Nic"! He started by calling Nic, "Nic" when he heard him crying when I was trying to get him to take a nap. He could tell Nic was in distress and seemed to be telling me about it. When we went to check on Nic I told him that his name was "Jac" and pointed to him and he said Jac! On the bus on the way home tonight he was pointing to himself and saying "Jac"! So cute! I will try to get a video of it soon!

Happy 8 month birthday
Nic is eight months old today! It is amazing how time flies! It seels like he is getting ready to start cruising soon - hopefully crawling first! He wants to move and join in on the action! He has been teething up a storm. His bottom two middle teeth are through - the right more than the left - and he is chewing on anything he can get his hands on - and drooling everywhere!
His personality is starting to shine through! He smiles at people all the time and is curious about everything. He will grab anything he can reach and put in in his mouth. He wants to be close to his brother and touch anything he is playing with. Jac likes to play close to Nic - close enough that Nic can grab what he is playing with - even though Nic can't move and he could choose to play anywhere - and still be close to me - he plays within Nicie's grasp. Jac doesn't get upset when Nic takes what he is playing with - he just grabs it back - and will take whatever Nic is playing with to begin with also. Hmmm - we are going to have to work on that one! At this point Nic doesn't complain about having his play thing taken though.
He is starting to twist and reach which Jac's OT says he needs to do to be able to get to sitting on his own! Sometimes when he has twisted and reached to get something he gets "stuck" and unhappy in the position and can't figure out how to get back up and I have to help him back into a full upright sitting position.
He loves to talk! Man he has a lot to say! Joseph has commented that Nic needs to learn that there is an "inside" voice because his only voice seems to be an ear splitting "outside" voice.
The bus!
Yeah for public transportation! We have been taking the bus! A lot! We have been taking the local buses into downtown Boulder and going to the university and to the downtown Pearl street area. It is a great way to get out on these long, not too warm beginning of summer evenings. The boys love it! Love it! Joseph holds Jac and I hold Nic and they look out the windows and are free of car seats and they love it. They both make friends with the other passengers and Nic "talks" a lot and helps to announce the stops! Too fun! We also took the bus into Denver on Saturday. It is a long trip (an hour) but the boys had a great time and it was nice to not have to strap anyone in to car seats!
Jac seems to finally be feeling better
Jac seems to be finally recovering from his ear infection. This time it has taken two rounds of antibiotics (we switched when the first one didn't seem to work). His appetite seems to have recovered some and his sense of humor has come back! Yeah! I hope this it is for the season. Dr. B mentioned that if he keeps on getting ear infections we may have to consider putting tubes in his ears! Argh! I hope not!
Mr. Nicie is making more sounds also
Mr. Nicie is also making more and more different sounds. None of them sound anything like words yet but there are definitely a larger variety of sounds - and he really likes to make them.
When we were on the bus the other day he was "talking" so much that the next time we got on with the same bus driver she jokingly asked if he was going to be helping her announce the stops again!

So many words!
Jac's language skills seem to have taken off in the last two weeks! He is identifying buses and birds and dogs and bikes and cars when we are out. He recognizes that there is a ball on the TV when I watch tennis or basketball (there has been a lot of that in the last two weeks with the NBA playoffs and the French Open). He is repeating all kinds of words. Se says "these" when I say it. He was saying box when he was dragging a box around. I can't even remember all of the words that I have said that he has repeated. It feels like he is all of a sudden comprehending a lot more of the language that he is hearing all of the time. It is really cool to watch - and means we have to be even more careful what we say around him!
