Jac had his Synagis shot today. This is a preventative shot given to help protect kids from RSV. RSV can be really nasty, especially for little ones like Jac.
The meds were delivered to our house this morning and a nurse came by at noon to administer the injection. She was very nice and it turns out she is the wife of the gentlemen that works for the medical supplies company that brings Jac's oxygen!
Jac was already crying (because of a dirty diaper) when she gave him the injection. He did cry harder but once I changed his diaper he calmed down fairly quickly.
It was a dramatic hour while she was here though as he had several diapers and spit-up through his nose.
He seems to be fussier this evening (which he is not generally). We are not sure if it is his hernia that is bothering him or perhaps the injection.

synagis is a scam.
ReplyDeletethis stuff costs $4,500 PER SHOT! Even if your insurance covers part of it like ours -- 80/20 -- this drug can cause you to go broke! My wife and I are tapped out, our flex-plan money, GONE. This was NOT explained to us when we agreed to it after a tough hospital stay and a $200,000 hospital bill. Oh, and btw, this expensive snake oil isn't a vaccine -- it does not prevent RSV, they just claim that it lessens the bad effects. Oh, and BTW, it's FREE if you're on medicaid or welfare -- how effed-up is this?
