Jac is staying on CPAP and in the NICU for tonight

I am exhausted so I am going to keep this short and sweet.

The doctors and I have agreed that Jac will stay on the CPAP and in the NICU for tonight. If anything changes they will call me but there is no expectation that anything will change overnight.

Jac is now on a continuous feed every of 2 ml per hour. After his first four hours of continuos feed his aspirate was very tiny - meaning he was tolerating the food well. The next check will be at 6:00 pm or so - if I am awake I will call and check on how that went but I hope it will.

  1. So sorry that you have to go through all this worrying but stay strong. I'll pray for you as well (I'll figure something to pray to, I'm sure there is a Chinese something or other that looks after infants!)

This is also more of comment to an earlier posting regarding your instincts...it was a word of advice given to me from my new mother in law (mother of 4) She told me that when I become a doctor, espcially if I go into pediatrics, to listen to the parents and the "mother's instincts". She has often been more right about her kids than the doctors who are supposed to "know" more. You're doing a great job as a mom! Chin up and don't forget to take care of yourself as well...

Much love to you and your family,
    ~Emily

  2. Taj & Joseph,
I know this is so very hard. We spent just a week in the NICU with Matthew and he was not nearly in Jac's situation but I can feel your struggles. No one knows like a mother knows what is right for her child. Be a pushy advocate. It is your right and Jac's. I do believe in God and I am praying for you and for Jac. There is a reason for all of this and one day you'll know what it is. I reach out and give you a hug across many states. Please, please try to get some rest and eat well and keep making your mama's milk. The first 3 weeks is when you establish your milk supply and the stress always affected mine. Many hugs and many prayers and thanks for all the updates but get your rest. We're pulling for all of you.
