Milk supply is down

My milk supply has gone down precipitously this week. Last week was tough taking care of him all by myself during the day (with some very important help from Auntie Leslie). I am now pumping every 2 hours (even at night) to try to bring my supply back up. I am currently only making slightly more than he is eating.

I am very worried that right before we get to breastfeeding I am not going to have enough milk. Augh!

All of you breastfeeding mothers please reassure me I will get it back if I work at it! Augh!

I am working to get help for a while during the day until we are able to start breastfeeding!

  1. I know milk supplies can go up and down, and that it can be hard to keep a supply up with a pump. Definitely get help, and keep talking with your lactation consultant. After all you and Jac have been through, you both totally deserve a nice relaxing nursing relationship for a while! It will be worth it when you get there. :)

  2. Taj - Sorry I've been away from the blog for a few days. Stress and not enough sleep can really affect your milk supply. Pumping every 2 hours is great but make sure you try to get a 5 hour stretch of sleep if you can at night. Your supply was well established and should come back easily. I will send you more ideas in email. Hang in there! Karen B.
